I have had a gym membership in the past with Retro Fitness but never had this many issues canceling. It takes 2 minutes to sign up for a gym membership in store, yet takes months of fighting to cancel it.

ABC Financial must be making all of it's money off the shady contracts it has people sign through the gyms. I sent a certified letter in Dec '16, then called mid Jan '17 with no luck. Come end of Feb '16 and they still haven't canceled my account. I'm being charged extra months, late fees.

I had to dispute the charge on my Credit Card account. Called, and all they can do for me is inform me of their policies and email me the procedures for canceling. They have no record of my first certified letter sent, and I moved so I have no idea where my receipt went. Now they expect me to send another one and wait another payment period and get charged.

All for less than $100 worth of dues. They know people won't take the legal route with this and will just shell out.

I will be taking this up with legal guidance as far as I possibly can. It's about sending a message, that we won't put up with these practices anymore.

Reason of review: Return, Exchange or Cancellation Policy.

Monetary Loss: $80.

Preferred solution: Cancel my account like I requested in December '16 and remove charges past Feb '17.

Location: 8320 AR-107, Sherwood, AR 72120, USA

Retro Fitness has proven to be one of the worst gym experiences of my life. AS per their policy, I notified them 60 days in advance to tell them of my termination of membership.

This was in November of 2017. In late December or early January I began receive numerous phone calls daily from ABC Financial Services telling me that I have an outstanding balance of app. $61.00. Apparently, Retro Fitness had charged me for the months of December and January.

When I spoke with a representative from ABC Financial Services they basically told me I need to resolve this with retro fitness. I went over to the Park Slope location in Brooklyn and spoke with the manager and a desk clerk lady. George, the manager, told me that I needed to pay 31.33 and the matter would be taken care of. I paid the 31.33 and have the receipt as well as the Cancellation Form I signed.

He assured me that this issue would be resolved, notated in their system, and ABC would be contacted so their harassing daily phone calls would stop. As of February 13, I am still getting daily phone calls from ABC Financial. I spoke with ABC again and told them I had pay 31.33 and have a cancellation form in my possession and they still directed me to Retro fitness to deal with the matter. They said I still show an active account.

I called Retro fitness twice today and spoke with a young lady that basically told me George was unavailable and now working at a different location and that she would give him the message. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that I am still dealing with this and I do not understand why it is so difficult to be removed from their system. I will never recommend this gym and am very regretful that I ever joined this one. Which I might add, it was incredibly easy to do so.

Much different though when you try to get out. I'm pretty certain a cult might be easier to leave.
